Oboist
Paula Piñeiro Benítez was born in Havana, Cuba. She graduated in 2023 from the University of Arts (ISA), in two specialties: Musical Composition, with Professor Juan Piñera, and Oboe with Professor Lauren Ríos. She has also attended to a Hochschule fur Katholische Kirchemusik und Musikpadagogik Regensburg’s sacred music course developed in Havana.
She is currently studying a Master in Interpretation at the Pietro Mascagni Conservatory of Livorno, Italy, where she begins to stand out for her experience as an oboist, recently participating in orchestral projects such as the series of 4 concerts that took place in theaters in Livorno, Lucca, Florence and Siena as part of the collaboration between the Orchestra Toscana dei Conservatori and the Dartmouth Symphony Orchestra.
In the past, Piñeiro has worked as an assistant professor at the University of Arts (ISA) in the subjects of Orchestration, as part of the Composition Chair, and the subject Extended Techniques and Contemporary Music, as part of the Oboe Chair. She also had a permanent position as 2nd oboe of the Orquesta Sinfónica del Gran Teatro de La Habana Alicia Alonso.
As part of her compositional work in the current year 2025, Piñeiro wrote several works for solo instruments and chamber music, commissioned and premiered by artists and ensembles of international stature such as the bassoonist Natasha Pizarro, the clarinetist Benjamin Maneyrol, the Ensemble Ekkip, as well as the Sur editorial of contemporary Latin American music. Piñeiro also composed and premiered her chamber opera EroS as part of the Puccini 2025 Chamber Opera Festival on 3 May at the Teatro di San Girolamo in Lucca, Italy.
She participated as a composer and oboist in the 10th Sacred Music Week 2024, where she had the opportunity to interact with composer and choir director Steven Heelein and premiered her work Rito al alba for soprano and mezzo-soprano, and intimísimo, work for oboe and electronics by composer Iván F. Real.
She participated in the Workshop "Advanced Contemporary Musical Composition and Management of 20th and 21st Century Musical Heritage", held in Havana by Fabián Panisello, Marius Díaz, and the Plural Ensemble. This workshop included a concert featuring her work Paradisus for quintet. She attended Maestro Salvatore Sciarrino's Composition Course at the Chigiana International Festival & Summer Academy 2024, and the Puccini International Opera Composition Course 2024 with Maestro Girolamo Deraco.
As an oboist, in addition to playing regularly in the programs of the Alicia Alonso Symphony Orchestra of the Grand Theater of Havana, in 2024 she was invited to perform with the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba and the Havana Chamber Orchestra.
She has participated and received prizes in the following contests: Puccini International Chamber Opera Composition Competition 2024, UNEAC 2023 Harold Gramatges Composition Competition, International Summer Academy 2022, Musicalia Competition held by the University of Arts (ISA) (2022 & 2021 editions), and UNEAC 2021 Harold Gramatges Composition Competition.
